Neck and upper back pain

One complaint that I have been seeing in my practice more often now than before the pandemic is neck and upper back pain.
That got me thinking what could be causing it and I believe it is the not so perfect adaptation of workstations at home.
Consider that the weight of our head increases the more we move it forward.

Then it is just like a domino effect as our posture adapts so we can continue doing the same things.

How to fix the situation?

Monitor at eye level, arms alongside the body with elbows comfortably bent and hip and knees at 90 degrees with feet resting and not hanging.

Remember, the core comes first - keeping your back straight is the single most important decision and to maintain it you need to focus on your core – your abdomen.

Then adapt the height of your keyboard and monitor. It is easier with desktops since you can fix them separately. Notebooks are trickier and you will have to find the middle ground.

Using a laptop with an extra keyboard.
